Monticello, Minnesota founded in 1856 is a charming little city basking on the banks of the mighty Mississippi.  We are conveniently located between St. Cloud, home of St. Cloud State University and the Twin Cities.  Our ever growing community offers a wide variety of activities sure to please any traveler. 

Venturing into Monticello during the winter months you won’t want to miss our resident Trumpeter Swans.  Every winter thousands of trumpeter swans make themselves a home in the open waters of the Mississippi River near West Bridge Park. 

Venturing a little outside the city hosts a vast array of fun things to do.  Avon, Minnesota is the start of the Lake Wobegon Trail a 46-mile long hike-and-bike pathway. It is a wonderful way to enjoy our breath taking fall colors.

 While on your way to Avon don’t miss Saint John’s University the home of the Saint John’s Abbey Arboretum, a natural arboretum that covers more than 2,500 acres of lakes, prairies, oak savannah and forest.  While you are at the Abbey be sure to stop and see The Saint John’s Bible, a hand written, hand illuminated bible produced by calligrapher Donald Jackson.
